Planted 1,198 trees, distributed 1,200 saplings and spread more than 9,500 seed balls
In the heart of BhadradriKothagudem, Telangana, a small town known for its lush landscapes and cultural richness, a remarkable story is unfolding one that proves age is no barrier when it comes to changing the world. The hero of this story is not a seasoned environmentalist or a policy-maker, but a child, barely old enough to tie his own shoelaces. His name is Master MuduVishwa Mithra Chowhan, and at just three years and 17 days old, he began a movement that continues to grow like the trees he plants every single day. It was 2 June 2022 when little Vishwa Mithra took his first steps in what would become a lifelong journey. While many children his age were learning nursery rhymes, he was sowing seeds literally. Inspired by the simple yet powerful idea that planting a tree today means saving a life tomorrow, he launched the movement he called ‘Walk for Trees.’ His mission was as innocent as it was ambitious: plant one tree every day.
At first, it was a family affair. With his parents guiding his tiny hands, he pressed the saplings into the soil. But soon, neighbors, friends, and eventually the community began to join him. What started as a birthday promise quickly became a symbol of hope and responsibility. What makes Vishwa Mithra’s story extraordinary is not only his age but his conviction. At an age when most children are fascinated by toys and cartoons, his joy comes from watching a sapling stand upright in the soil, watered and nurtured. His smile shines brightest when he sees new leaves sprout. His journey has ignited curiosity and action in his community. Children walk beside him during his “green marches,” parents pledge to care for the saplings he distributes, and schools are beginning to adopt his ideas as part of their environmental activities. Slowly but surely, his town is turning greener, one tree at a time.
In a world grappling with deforestation, climate change, and loss of biodiversity, the efforts of this little boy from Telangana remind us that solutions can begin with the simplest acts. A tree planted is a promise kept for clean air, cool shade, and a healthier tomorrow. As his saplings take root and grow into trees, so too does the legacy of Master MuduVishwa Mithra Chowhan. His story is proof that even the smallest hands can plant the biggest hopes. And as long as he keeps walking for trees, the Earth will keep breathing easier.
