Olympic is related to Olympia as well as pertaining to Mount Olympus, in Greece. Mount Olympus in Thessaly, northern Greece, and the home of the twelve gods of Olympus in Greek mythology. In Greek mythology, Olympus is the home of the Greek gods, on Mytikas peak. Pieria's Olympus was declared an archaeological and historical site for the preservation of its monumental and historical character. Five kilometers away from the sea is Dion, sacred city of the ancient Macedons, dedicated to Zeus and the Twelve Olympians. Its prosperity lasted from the 5th century BC to the 5th century AD. Olympia was also known for the gigantic chryselephantine -ivory and gold on a wooden frame statue of Zeus that was the cult image in his temple, sculpted by Pheidias, which was named one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World by Antipater of Sidon.
