Rian is the youngest one to cover the longest & fastest distance of 108 kms non-stop cycling. Keeping the old saying of 'A healthy mind resides in a healthy body' Rian Kumar, age 6.5 years has astonished the whole world by being the fastest and the youngest one to cover the longest distance of 108.09 kms nonstop ride at a formidable speed of 20.8 km/hr in a record time of 05 hours and 17 minutes.Whats more commendable is that he achieved this rare feat on a 16 inch MTB kid’s cycle without any professional training. While he began cycling on a normal, tiny cycle in January-2021, his journey to become the youngest cyclist is something beyond imagination. His stamina and speed are commendable and his dedication stitched with perseverance is something worth imbibing of. World Book of Records, London astonishingly admires his passion and dedication and his mothers' moulding procedure and includes him in its Kids edition-2021. This was informed by Mr. Santosh Shukla- President, WBR. Rian's mother Commander Gauri Mishra (Retd. Indian Navy Officer) is the one who took the onus of training him during lockdown. Initially she was clueless on how to keep him engaged productively and tried to teach him acting as well, but gradually with time she realised that this is not his calling and he was not enjoying it; and that was when she decided to take him out on the ground and shake some leg at Chennai, where they are presently residing. When they began cycling, Rian was quite motivated and it was visible in his enthusiasm of cycling even in the hot humid weather of Chennai during the hottest months of April, May and June. Though initial kick off was full of bumps and hurdles, as navigating the roads of Chennai (as they had recently moved from New Delhi), teaching road sense to the child posed serious challenges, but Rian made the most out of the lockdown by setting an example in front of the entire world to make the best out situation. Since Chennai not only suffers from extreme humid conditions, the traffic is yet another problem. To resolve this issue, both the mother-son duo came up with a solution of getting up at 3 am and going out for long rides on cycling. To keep balance, they decided to do it thrice a week and rest of the times, Rian could do his skating practice and also played with his friends. Rian returns between 7-8 am with his mother after practicing 4-5 hours of cycling every alternative day. Whilst on road, he gives a tough fight to other riders on their fancy high end bikes - making new companions for lifetime and inspiring others to step out, stay fit and preserve the environment. He is a local legend and commonly known as Rian the lion, on the streets of Chennai. His noteworthy achievements and extraordinary temperament has been featured in many local and national newspapers. Just like riding the cycle at an unprecedented speed and keeping up the balance, Rian has always kept up his zeal alive in other sports and academics as well. He is also interested in another high octane sport- in-line skating, which is an advanced version of quad wheel skating, but with just wheels in the middle. Rian's father Commander Animesh, who met with a severe sky diving accident and since then he is on crutches; but both the parents have not given up to nurture Rian's interest and never leave any stone unturned. Rian also loves mathematics, enjoys solving sums and does coding in his free time. It may be appreciated that Rian has set this record with a normal 16 inch MTB kid’s cycle, which requires double the effort than a road/ hybrid bike. With such interest, passion, stamina and speed, had Rian got the professional cycle, he would have been able to cover double the distance of what is he covering right now and complete the BRM (Brevets de Randonneurs Mondiaux) at such a tender age. He aims to join the national team for cycling, participate in the Tour de France and make the country proud with his achievements.
