Mahakal International Mitra Mandal Creates Record with 21-Foot Lord Ganpati Idol Made of 1, 25,000 Betel Nuts

18 Years of Unique Celebrations, a Tradition of Creativity and Devotion
In a spectacular display of devotion and creativity, Mahakal International Mitra Mandal has been recognized by the World Book of Records for creating the largest Lord Shri Ganpati idol, measuring an impressive 21 feet and made entirely from 1,25,000 betel nuts. Titled “Mahakal Van ke Yuvraj,” this extraordinary idol is a testimony to the Mandal's enduring tradition of bringing new, innovative ideas to life during Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations. Mahakal International Mitra Mandal, led by Rishabh Babu Yadav and Aakash Verma, has been organizing unique Ganesh idols for the past 18 years. Every year, the Mandal outdoes itself by creating an idol that not only reflects deep spiritual devotion but also stands out for its artistic brilliance. From using eco-friendly materials to integrating innovative concepts, the Mandal has earned a reputation for combining creativity with a deep respect for tradition.
This year, they reached new heights by constructing the 21-foot “Mahakal Van ke Yuvraj” using betel nuts, a material rarely seen in such large-scale artistic creations. The concept behind using 1,25,000 betel nuts reflects the Mandal's desire to honour tradition in a distinctive and meaningful way, while also showcasing the potential of unconventional materials in art. For the creation of this remarkable Ganpati idol, Mahakal International Mitra Mandal collaborated with a team of skilled artists from Bengal. Known for their exquisite craftsmanship and attention to detail, the artists meticulously designed and constructed the idol over weeks of hard work. The use of betel nuts as the primary material for the idol was not only a challenge but also a bold artistic statement.
Creating a 21-foot idol from such a delicate material as betel nuts was no small feat. The entire process required careful planning, precision, and a dedicated team. Each betel nut was handpicked, cleaned, and carefully positioned to form the intricate details of the idol. From the finely carved face to the elaborate ornamentation on the idol, every aspect was designed to perfection. The name “Mahakal Van ke Yuvraj” reflects Ujjain’s deep spiritual connection with Lord Mahakal and Lord Ganpati. The title symbolizes the deity as a youthful prince of the sacred Mahakal forest, embodying strength, wisdom, and protection. It also represents the Mandal's homage to Ujjain's rich cultural and spiritual heritage.
The leaders behind this initiative expressed their gratitude for the continued support and enthusiasm from the community. "Our goal has always been to celebrate Lord Ganpati in a way that brings people together and highlights the beauty of our traditions. Every year, we push ourselves to come up with something unique, and this year’s betel nut idol is truly special," said Aakash Verma. As the 21-foot Ganpati idol stands tall in Ujjain, it serves as a symbol of unity, innovation, and the enduring power of faith. With each passing year, Mahakal International Mitra Mandal continues to elevate the spirit of the festival, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of all those who witness their extraordinary creations. Looking ahead, the Mandal plans to continue its tradition of innovation and artistic excellence, ensuring that the spirit of Lord Ganpati is celebrated in ways that are both timeless and new.
